Merja Aletta Ranttila

30th January – 22nd February 2015

let’s SEE

Merja Aletta Ranttila merges inseparably in the northern barren landscape as if she were an integral part of region’s mystical energy and something magical power of the past.

Shamanistic expressionism, where scary evil’s devils are fighting against innocent and pure angels, fears of separation of laestadian religion’s “promised” hellfire and anxiety without any mercy at all. She has dealt a lot with her own life conflicts and also she has “been present” in wars, natural disasters, human suffering and emergency.

After the dark 1980s in her images there can be found the light more and more, year by year, “childish” faith, hope and trust in a better ahead, perfect good.

When you look at her artistic production there can bee seen that the starting point is the Sami culture meaning; even if the artist is creative, very essence, in anywhere, creative working is basically the same all over the world.

Her artistic work is therapeutic, holistic and it is a way of life.

In this exhibition Merja Aletta Ranttila shows mainly installations and mixed media works from the last few years until today but also those well-known lino-prints for decates until last year.
