The works for Flux Aura have been chosen.
Flux Aura 2011 brings environmental art into
the every day life of Turku. Giant sea ducks floating on the river, a
village of artistic butterfly feeders, a 25 meter long daisy or
visual acupuncture of the environment are just some examples of
the art works that will be seen by the River Aura in summer 2011.
Works from 12 artists or artist groups have
been selected to realize an art work for Flux Aura 2011. The art
works were chosen from the proposals by a jury, which consisted of PhD Tuula Karjalainen, MA Villu Jaanisoo and the representatives of the Turku Artists' Association. The following artists and art works were chosen:
Heini Aho ja Sebastian Ziegler: AKU
Armi Laukia: Pietari Kalmin perhospuutarha [The Butterfly garden of Pehr Kalm]
Renja Leino: Valo-oliot [The Light-creatures]
Kari Caven: Taivaan lahjat [Gifts from heaven]
Reima Nurmikko ja Satu Tuittila: Tasapainoilua [Balancing]
Outi Puro ja Heath Nash: Flowerdrops
Jani Rättyä ja Antti Stöckell: Päivänkakkara [Daisy]

The call for applications was open for artists
from South West Finland, and their partners from either Finland or abroad. The deadline was in April 2010, and Flux
Aura received a total of 49 proposals from 80 artists by that time. The
themes of the art works are connected to the Aura
river - to running water, to the city and to life and nature around the
river.
Flux Aura 2011 is part of the Turku 2011 European Capital of Culture year, and
it is organized by the Turku Artists' Association.
